Default serious idle problem, help needed asap please!!!

i was comming home yesterday on bristol and i went to slow down, cars stopped in front of me at the light and my rpms jumped up to 3 grand and stayed there.
my car would NOT stop, i was standing on my brake and shes lurching forward, thank god i have a line lock or i wouldve hit someone. i put her in park and it stayed at 3 grand, NUETRAL - FIVE grand. WTF is wrong?? i checked everything i could think of and i cant find anything wrong with it. i limped her home and went out last night to check her and shes fine now, but im scared to drive it.

ideas?

Pull your TPS (throttle position sensor) off and see if the spring has gone bad, that's my first guess. I want to say they run about $40 at Advance, and they're a quick replacement.

im pretty sure a tps wouldnt do that. the computer usually recognizes a bad tps and should stall the motor. my experience with them usually the motor wont run. but then again im not pro on lt1's yet lol.

dont ya wish you had a manual when the rpm's jumped? just push the clutch in =)

I had the same issue. I replace the TPS and another sensor right under it(dont remember what its called) something to do with air and idle. I dont remember which one or if both fixed it.

Edited: Just noticed you have an LT motor not sure if the sensor are the same or not.

ones called a TPS (throttle position sensor) and the other is an Idle Air Control or an IAC.
