Question about resetting "Change Oil" light
In another forum for F-bodies, someone was asking about resetting the "Change Oil" light for a 99 Trans Am. Someone posted this reply:
"ON Most GM cars you turn the key to the run position without starting the car, push the gas peddle to the floor three times, on the third time hold it too the floor until it resets"
If the Trans Am is like a Camaro, I first push down the trip odometer reset button and hold it down as I turn the car on (DON'T START IT THOUGH). After about 10 seconds the "Change Oil" light starts to flash and then disappears. From there, it's reset. That works for me. Isn't it the same for Firebirds?
Also, wouldn't pushing the gas pedal to the floor three times with the car on (but not started), wouldn't it flood the engine? Granted, it's fuel injection and not carbureted, but when the engine's on and you're depressing the gas pedal without the engine running, isn't the fuel pump sending gas into the cylinders? Or when it's completely floored, does the computer read it like it's being flooded and cut off the fuel into the cylinders?

Either way works.
Pushing the gas pedal down with the key on engine off.
It won't flood the engine.
Or you can do like it says in the owners manual and hold the trip odometer reset until the change oil light flashes, do this with the key on engine off.

^ X3, trip odometer reset. It wont flood because all the fuel pump does is send fuel up to the injectors. The injectors wont fire until there is a signal from the computer telling them to fire.

My oil light comes on after I crank the car and reamains on for about 1 min then goes away. Does this mean it needs to be reset or does everbody elses do that? I don't think it did that on my '98 SS I used to have.

Recently I went on a 1100 mile trip and didn't want to reset the trip odometer but the light kept coming on, when I stopped for gas I reset the light with the gas pedal.
I was told of the gas pedal reset by a service manager at the dealer a few years ago.
