No spark at start up?????

No spark at start up????? Every once in a while (98 T/A LS1) the car will turn over an over without starting.Then after about 10 tries it will just fire up.Ive disconnected the battery to reset the computer and it didnt do it for a couple of days.Now yesterday at the Woodward cruise it wouldnt start again.Cranked at least 20 tries.On the first cold start try it had a little "poof" noise out of the exhaust like it tried to fire,but then nothing after that.I pulled off a plug wire at the coil"MSD" and it didnt spark.Then all the sudden it started.What gives here guys? Im stumped.BTW it is a head/cam /intake motor-stock lower if this helps.Thanks
