Talking Help with radiator fluid fluid purchase

Im doing my radiator flush in a couple of days and i dont know which brand to buy, Prestone is $13.99 at autozone for the 50/50 fluid mix......this stuff is expensive ...how many of these does everybody buy to fill up the radiator ???? the guy at autozone tells me to buy 4 which will be around $50...the same guy that tried to tell me not to put NGK TR55 plugs on my car because i'll have problems ......any suggestions on what kind to buy and how many containers

That guy is a moron for saying NOT to use NGK TR55's ,they're pretty much the best.

As far as the coolant goes, personally, for 10 1/2 years in my 1998 WS6 I use: South Florida weather like you have in Cali. Engine runs very cool.

Half jug of Dexcool
1 bottle water wetter
Distilled water (top it off with this)

DExcool hater here! that stuff sucks *** and will corrode the cooling system in a non pressurized secondary system like on an f body. i have been using green coolant since i bought my car. (about more then a year now) and do not buy 50/50 mixed coolants already, buy the concentrated ones and mix it yourself and you can get 2 gallons from that. i also buy my coolants from walmart its cheaper

No matter which type you choose (don't go 50/50 no matter what) always use distilled water as suggested. "Normal" water has minerals and such in it which will stick to the walls of the cooling system.

DexCool will be the easiest, but green is good. But, if you go with green(ethaline glycol) you will need to flush the system very well. They don't like to be mixed. . . AT ALL.

I can't remember if it was here or norcal-lsx but i read that dexcool was bad for the waterpump. As a byproduct of the coolant, a sort of milky-jelly like tan substance would appear inside the system. Usually by just removing the radiator cap you could see an sample of it. I read to just flush the system, use a full bottle of water wetter then top off with distilled water. Is this extremely wrong? Should I add dexcool?

Just cuase my car overheated today and I'm wondering if I fucked up.

The milky **** you are talking about is caused by mixing green(ethaline glycol) with DexCrap.

This is the route Im plannig on going. Down here the lowest the temp will get is maybe 60, so no worry about freezing.

There are rust inhibitors and lubricants in coolant that your system needs, so you should always run some coolant. If you don't, you're asking for trouble.

That's what I think too.

But, I have seen hard core engines ran on water wetter and disstilled o2 only.

I really hope that becuase I'm running without any coolant I wont see problems arise. My car is still overheating though. Still need to figure out why, just sucks that it happens in coincedence with me switching to just WW and Distilled Water.

Going to WW and Distilled water only IS NOT why you're overheating. Putting some Dexcool in there with it, like half a jub is just better for the cooling system.

You need to figure out whats causing the overheating.

I noticed a pool of coolant near the floor bed of the passenger side. Once I mentioned this to people, everyones suggestion was a bad heater core = Replacement. I've searched around.. looks like its a few hour job. Mechanics are charging me 400 part and labor. Is this worth it or is it something doable? I just cant have my car on downtime if I'm not able to finish.

Look it up and do it your self.

I do admit, it looks like it will suck.
