Default Window motor replacement

Ok, I've searched a lot of places and read the FAQ on window motor replacement but still have a question. On a 2000 trans am can you replace the motor without removing the whole regulator from the door? Some sites and how to's I've seen say I have to pull the whole reg and flat wound spring out and others make it just seem like I have to drill out 3 rivets and swap the motor only. I just want to know what I'm getting into before I tear my door apart. Am I better off to spend the 100 bucks to get someone to do it????

Thanks!

You can just drill out the rivets. I replaced one on my 02 TA and both on my 94 Z28, which took 30 minutes total

For your sanity do NOT remove the whole mechanism from the door. Super PITA and easy to mess something up (I bent something slightly somewhere because it doesn't operate completely smoothly anymore ). Drill the rivets out. Just be sure to support the window glass while doing it.

These are great instructions and it will not take long to do it..30-45 minutes...I got mine at advance auto parts for $36 with a life time warranty...nothing to it...that sucker is a fast mover too compared to the factory motor...

Drilling through the panel is easy. Drilling through the rivets is easy if you use a big enough bit. Use the link posted above and you will be fine.

You will be able to do the other one in 30 minutes now that you have done one already....it is not a matter of if ... it is a matter of when the other one will crap out on you.
