Default Aftermarket MAF ends

Are the aftermarket MAF ends (Thunder,SpeedInc, etc.) similar to ported stock ends? I would like to install them mostly for appearance. I have an A4 trans and have heard that porting the MAF will cause problems. Has anyone installed these ends on an A4 car? Does it cause problems?

Thank you

You are correct in saying that it is possible for this mod to cause trans problems in an A4. It can cause the PCM to sense less load than acutal, and it will reduce the line pressure which can cause the clutches to slip get burnt on WOT shifts. If you are mostly interested in looks, you could take the stock MAF apart and polish the stock ends on the outside. Easy to do, and it looks pretty nice.

Hope this helps,
Jordan

I too have an A4 with 108K
The aftermarket maf ends were one of my first mod's. However, i am looking @ getting rid of them hint hint as i am having the car "custom tuned". If interested i would swap you straight out for your stockers. Mine are Breathless Performance (C5) maf ends. NBM in color.
PM me if interested. Oh yeah, my car still runs, shifts like it did brand new in 2000 FWIW.

Do NOT get ported MAF ends with an A4. You will be begging for problems. I have no idea why people want to mess with the stock MAF on LS1's. They are good for BIG horsepower.

01 & up cars need all the timing they can get. I've had Whisper ported MAF ends on 2 different A4 cars without any issues.

He's right about the timing thing. Many run them successfully with no problems, It just seems like a while ago there seemed to be a correlation between transmission failures and this mod.

I am not looking for any HP gains with the MAF ends actually. I want them because they look ALOT better than the stockers in my opinion. What I wanted to know is if the billet ends that are for sale are all similar to ported stockers. IF they are can the problem with the line pressure be tuned out?

BTW I spent over an hour looking through all of the old posts about poted MAF's and seems more people do have problems than don't. Just wanted to say that so you guys don't think I am trying to rehash the SOS.
