Default Mr Gasket Thermostat?

I just noticed looking through my summit racing catalog that Mr. Gasket makes an LS1 thermostat that is a 160 degree and it is like $12 and change... that's frikin cheap. has anyone else tried these.. really $60 for a SLP part is crazy.

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't come with the gooseneck. It is just t-stat part. I have never messed with one but ought to be pretty simple to swap it into the GN.

GN? umm this is going into an LS1..... Love your avatar by the way.

maybe the goose neck is the reason it's so much cheaper?

Thanks!

Maybe I didn't say it very clearly? The actual t-stat part is mounted inside a curved aluminum "gooseneck" that the radiator hose connects to on the PS block. GN is held on by 3 10mm bolts IIRC. GN and t-stat are USUALLY sold as one unit but the t-stat part can be pulled out of the GN and replaced, but I have never done it. I just bought a $31 AZ GN & t-stat together and just replaced it as one unit. It was more expensive than Mr.G because it HAS the GN + t-stat and Mr. G is only the t-stat part that goes inside (minus the the GN). The GN is basically the housing that the t-stat fits INSIDE. Both together cost more than just the t-stat part but most vendors only sell the complete GN & t-stat as a unit.

Damn I wish I could talk I can picture it just not explain it

That one won't work in an LS1 setup. I bought one to use and it's not designed for our type water pump necks. I guess it works on 04+ cars.

Haha. I can see where you got that.

For $31 AZ has the t-stat+GN unit together in 160*, 170*IIRC and 185*. I swapped in a 160* this summer with no probs so far.
