Question catback install question...

I am planning to install my magnaflow cat back this weekend and I have a question about the install prep:

The instructions say to cut the pipe coming from the Y just before the axle area, no problem, that's easy to understand. My question IS: do you remove all of the stock exhaust from the Y back or just from where you cut it at? This is unclear in the instructions and I have not laid all of the parts in the kit out to determine.

I tried a search here too...fwiw.
