Default Would this work as an air filter?

Im thinking of setting up a ram air setup by running a hose (probably brake ducting) from my TB out through one of my fog lamps. Seen it done here and it seems to work alright, only thing is the one Ive seen had no airfilter. So heres my plan...take a MAF, disassemble it, take out the sensor portion and then screw the ends together with a flat piece of filter sandwitched beween the two ends. This would seem to make a nice little air filter to me. What does everyone else think?

I would but Im not down with removing the bumper support. If it was just me in there I would havealready done it but my wife rides with me as often as not, so less saftey stuff is a no-go.

Hmmm, ive thought about it but I havent seen one in person to be able to say if I like it or not. Isnt it like obvious that you have this huge lip underneath the chin of your car?

The bumper support offers little to almost zero protection in a medium to serious crash, if that's what you're worried about. It's only rated to 25-30mph, which nobody usually gets hurt. At speeds where injuries usually occur, the bumper support doesn't do anything except crumble with the rest of the front end

yes but I was under the impression that the front bumper support absorbed the energy exerted upon it by crumbling.
Thanks for the heads up! how much does the font support weigh?

most if not all bumper supports have collapsable joints that do absorb some energy. it would keep a minor wreck from causing frame damage. during a higher speed wreck like mentioned above, i would have to say they are fairly pointless.

i love my fast toys ram air, but i need to either seal my lid cuz its leaking air a bit or i need a new one. once the FTRA is sealed it can actually create psi.

This car has a Fast Toys Ram Air and as you can see it does not show .. where the Super Sucker Ram Air (FTRA's main copmpetion) can be seen from the front of the car...the FTRA and a Z06 intake were my first performance mods that I did 5 years ago and after over 160,000 miles has proven to be well worth the money...they are not expensive...if you want to save a little money you can probably find one in the for sale section..

I made my own ram air that is similar to the FTRA. $12 and a couple hours of work, you can see some pictures at my cardomain page. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2142863

Edit: I just noticed you're in Fresno. I'm a student at Fresno State, if you wanted to see what the ram air looks like I'm in Fresno 4 days a week for class.

as a general rule of thumb don't mess with the maf. Ask most shops/tuners and they almost always say leave it alone. Plus if you put a filter wedged in between the ends it will disrupt the flow around the maf sensors and will make your car act up.

No I mean using a separate maf housing, taking the sensor portion out completely and just using the ends.

As far as what? Weve established that Im talking about using a sperate maf housing, Ie having two maf's in the intake line, Intake manifold/TB------MAF--------filter(made from maf ends).

I thought you were talking about having an SD tune at first. Is it going to be just one tube or two going into one?

Ok, gotcha. If you go that route go to Autozone or some autoparts store. they have make your own ram air kits and adapters that are like MAF ends and would be perfect for what your talking about.
