Default smaller pulley

I'm a little confused about the over drive alt pulley. If an under drive crank pulley makes the alt spin slower then wouldn't you want a smaller alt pulley also? I thought the smaller pulley made it spin faster. Or is it the other way around?

Smaller "driven" pulleys result in higher revolutions at a given belt speed and require more force to turn the driven pulley. Larger driven pulleys result in lower revolutions at a given belt speed and require less force to turn the driven pulley.

OK so the overdrive pulley is actually smaller then stock and an underdrive pulley is bigger then stock? I'm so confused.

A smaller crank pulley will turn the accessories slower. The driven accessories work opposite. For example, a power steering pump or alternator will turn FASTER with a smaller pulley. Many companies offer a larger overdrive alternater pulley along with an underdrive crank pulley to keep the voltage from dropping.
