I am considering upgrading to Hooker's 1-7/8, from my 1-3/4. Mine are Jet-Hot coated and have been on my car since mid-2002. They still look good. The only difference with coated (mild steel) versus stainless is that coated headers will retain the heat inside the primaries much better. I can literally grab my primaries after 20 of cool down. Good luck with non-coated headers (either mild steel or stainless). Many say not to coat stainless headers (waste of money), but I always coat headers.

If not coated, Stainless steel only gets surface rust. The low carbon content in stainless helps to detract rust from forming and penetrating the material. Mild steel will eventually rust through if not coated.

304 SS or better will outlast a coated mild steel header under any conditions.

Go with kooks ive had nothing but trouble with my hooker 1 7/8 headers. The front 2 primaries on the driverside turn down to soon and have burned up many spark plug wires. Go kooks for the win.

I have the Kooks stainless and they are coated. They have been on since May and look just the way the did when I picked the car up after installation.

Good to know. I'm about to start a winter project and was leaning more towards the hookers, kooks were my second choice. Now I'm back to the kooks!

I've had both, I kept the kooks and sent back the hookers. I didn't get a chance to install the hookers but the kooks are doing well and have enough clearance so the plug wires don't burn.

I didn't like the fact that the hookers only came with the emission fittings and didn't give the option of a "Race" Version.

I do miss the coating on the headers for cool down purposes only that was a extra $150 Option that I didn't get.

people talk like the coated headers go bad in a month. there are plenty of people here with pacesetters that have had them for 5+ years without any problems.

i havent bought headers yet but i can tell you now im not going to spend 1k on them, to me thats just insane.

i agree on the 1000 is a bit much for headers when you can put the money to other mods ..but thats my opinion

ive had hookers on my old 00 Z and now i have an 02 with pacesetters. and honestly, i can care less of a shinier header. yes the kooks, and qtp, arh are more top quality. but im happy with my pacesetters. they still look great, and the only spots i can see with some type of rust is the oollector. but its not that bad. i had the money to get kooks, but like i said, i rather use the money for other mods. i was able to get and slp lid, magnaflow catback, and pacesetter longtubes for the price of 1 set of kooks..

They are both good products Just figure out what you are willing to spend and decide. I ended up scanning the classifieds and picking up a used set of Kooks with a catted y. Picked up my GMMG the same way It was still pricey although one way of looking at it would be I bought the headers and catted y and got the GMMG for free I can definately say I am very happy with the fit and sound of my setup! Best I have had on any of my 4 F-bodys
