What catback with ARH? Not happy with GMMG.
Hey guys.
This summer I did a cam swap, and put a set of American Racing Headers (with the catted Y) at the same time. I had a GMMG catback since I bought the car in 04, and I've always liked it, but with the headers, it's gotten pretty raspy between 2k and 3k RPMs. The car is also a bit loud, not so much in the cabin, but everywhere else. (of course that's IMO).
What type of setup are you guys using with your long tube headers?
Sound clips of the current exhaust:

Drive-bys and idle:

Thanks!

I have the ARH 1 7/8 headers with cats and have the SLP D/D exhaust. I like it because it is not too loud at idle but it plenty loud at WOT. I think that many exhausts are going to have that rasp, but some are less than others.

I had the same setup minus the cam. I ended up switching to a magnaflow. Sounds alot better then i expected. Noise was decreased by a significant amount as well. My favorite thing about the magnaflow is that it got rid of the "rapping" sound which made the car sound like a truck.

go with hi flow cats or the power stick/power pack resinator as TORCHD 02 TA
Someone has hi-flow cats with an adjustable Y-pipe for reasonable too. Texas Speed? Would have to look it up.
I would try that before switching the exhaust.
I have GMMG and LTs and I agree, it is too raspy or whatever anyone wants to call it between 2k-3k. Sounds badass everywhere else though! esp WOT. After I first put it on, my friend was giggling like a school girl when we hit WOT.
I am about to add one of those once I get my Home Theater finished.

Does anybody know what GMMG uses on there phase II cars as I know they have headers on them. Do they have the dreaded rasp? Maybe somebody with a phase II GMMG car can chime in on how it sounds and if they did anything different.

Yeah I know the feeling...it was loud as hell at first, now it's kinda tame to me. I've had nothing but compliments on my setup and I run the ARH w/ catted y, GMMG and a cam. I do get some rapping sound if its cold and now and then when i get on it but i guess thats b/c GMMG doesnt have a muffler on it. Hell if you dont want it loud, leave it stock.

What rasp are you talking about? On the promotional video on gmmg site they have a 98 SS that is the first car you see that looks like it has ARH longtubes and maybe an offroad y with the gmmg catback and i cant hear the rasp from it? Maybe i dont know what rasp sounds like? who knows i just couldnt hear it on the video.

On the dyno video, it's the "popping/wet" sound from about 12-14 seconds. Perhaps I'm using the wrong term. If it wasn't just in a small range of the RPMs, I'd think it was a leak somewhere.
Unfortunately, the car is all wrapped up until spring (stupid early NE-OH winters). When I pull it out, I'll go back under the car and make sure all of the pipes are clamped tight enough, and there isn't a gap still showing.
