Default suggestions on plug wires/boot protectors with headers

Hey guys, the LS1 is almost ready for engine dyno day. I put the coil packs on the valve covers today and noticed that all the spark plug rubber boots are cracked all to ****. I have FLP headers and torn up plug boots are a good excuse for me to get some msd wires: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I've heard of issues from headers melting the wires/boots. I have 6 of the 8 factory metal spark plug boot sleeves, but I found these boot protectors on Summit also: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

Will I be ok with the factory metal sleeves (once I find 2 of them to make a complete set), or should I go ahead and get the msd wires with the Summit boot protectors?

Thanks again

The MSDs can be bent out of the way. Also, if you have a wire hitting a primary it's eventually going to melt no matter what you wrap it in.

Cool, sounds like I just need the msd wires then. Thanks guys. If I get paranoid enough, I'll get some Accel spark plug boot protectors from Autozone; they're mentioned in this post: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...s-headers.html

Sounds like those msds are working out for ya then. You don't seem too worried about the heat.
Just put in my order on Summit; the wires are on their way.

very true. you can twist the msds away from the header.

I run those insulated socks on a few of my wires that are close to my headers. I think the brand I got are Accel's. They work well.

Cool, I think the FLP headers are coated but I'm not sure what the degree rating is for them

I've got coated Bassanis. I used MSD wires with fire sleeve, very similar to the protectors you showed, just that it comes in a roll. A few thousand miles later the car still works great.
