Default Crank Bolt removal on Engine Stand

I have my new motor on a engine stand as of now and I'd like to keep it there my problem is that I can't get the crank bolt loosened to remove the balancer and finish disassembeling this motor, any tips? I have already tried using a high powered impact to break it loose with no luck and I'd don't want to remove it to install the flexplate and go through all that is I don't have to. Thanks in advance.

Might have to put the Flex Plate on it so you can immobilize the Crankshaft and then go back at it.

Might be able to install 2 bolts in the back of the crank and wedge a bar against the stand. Or even better drill, and bolt a heave piece of steel to the back of the crank, wedged against the stand to bell housing bolt.

I would be very cautious about knocking the whole motor and stand over while trying to brake it loose.

Another option would to use a very large strap wrench on the pulley itself.

Heat up the washer part of the crank bolt a little with a propane torch to break the loctite free (don't go nuts), then hit it with the impact.....it'll come off like butter. Done it that way many times.

Sounds easy enough I'll give it a try here in a few minutes and let you know how it goes.

I bought this tool from Summit. I was in the same situation and it worked like a charm for me

I just poped it off with an impact on my 5.3. Maybe see if you can find someone with a more powerful gun, I had to borrow my dads cause mine wasnt cutting it.

Yup, same here & didn't even have to lock down the flexplate...

The impact I have worked like a piece of cake on my LS1 but not on the new motor as I mentioned, but I'll see if I can't borrow a more powerful one if the heat doesn't do the trick. Thanks for the ideas guys.

ok heres something you could try.... it worked for me.... install 2 longer bolts into the holes where the flexplate would go on the crank.... get a "big bertha" screw driver and wedge it between the bolts, then rotate it so the screw driver is against the engine stand to motor "bolts"....
