Default Change in ASP pulley design?

Stupid noob question, What is the diferance bettween the ASP pulleys?

when i bought the pulley for my first SS around 4 years ago it looked like this one

I just bought another for my new SS and its like this one, same part number and still SFI approved but looks like a totaly differant part.

Just curious as it is nothing like what im used to. when did they change? I've put several of them on my buddys cars the most recent being last year and this is the first one i've come across like this.

I bought an ASP about 7 years ago and it looked like the bottom pic.
I have always seen the pulley in the top pic when I go to websites to look at pulleys. I just assumed that it was a new design with a fluid dampener built in. But not for sure.

The bottom pic is the "older" style, if there's such thing as a "new" one. Your bottom pic is the same pulley I've been installing on F-bodies for 10 yrs almost.

The difference is the top picture has a steel ring welded around the front.
If I had to guess, they needed to do this to keep their SFI rating.

I bought it new, it has the DOM(date of manufacture) of 10/28/08 engraved in it. (looks like bottom pic)

my old one had a DOM in 2004 and looked like the one in the top pic which is also from around that time having a DOM from 2003

and a couple of you guys say that 7-10 years ago you were installing pulleys like the bottom one. I know it doesn't really matter I was just curious about it.

for the record, the pics aren't actually of my pulleys just examples
