Default Boom tubes? Flat side exhaust exits....

Has anyone done NASCAR style boom tube(s) exiting out the side(s)? I imagine this would be very loud, but wicked. I'd like to see a Y-pipe setup with either 1 large boom tube exiting out one side, or an X-pipe setup with 2 boom tubes exiting out each side before the rear wheels.

Only problems would be clearance (unless you use flat exhaust pipes) and the heat screwing up the paint on the side skirts.

The only thing I dont like about the boom tubes is that if you run them right off the headers you have nothing there to scavange the exauhst. And if you run an X pipe with it, it would put the tube to far to the rear of the vehicle. Thats just a guess though. Not only that, but DAMN, a boom tube is expensive.

www.musclemotorsports.com sells used Nascar stuff... Try them before you plunk down $600 for a new boom tube.

I am running 3.5 oval duals and I could run a dual inlet boomtube if I wanted to but you would still need some mufflers or resonators otherwise you have open headers.

Yes boom tubes would be unbearable DD but man, they would look SWEET! Dr. Gas has an X with exits angled out 80 degrees. It's possible to do. I was just wondering if anyone had done this to their f-bod. Thanks for the responses...

That's a great pic link thanks for putting it up.

I'm tempted to modify my current 3.5 oval exhaust so I could run a boomtube on the passenger side, I wonder if the longer pipe and a 2-1 merged boomtube would quiet my car down.

This Unequal Length Busch Series X- would be sweet for a single boom tube out the passenger side. $$$!

Click here http://www.bsrproducts.com/productframe.html and click on "Heat Insulation" and you will find heat shields for boom tube arrangements right at the top of the page.....I've been looking at these for a few years (I sold that car, but still have the links).

OK here is an idea. I already have the FLP's on the car that use the V clamps. Take 2 3" bullets and weld V clamps to each end, then weld V clamps onto the Boom tube pipes. Then all you would have to do is fab up a hanger for the boom tube out the side.

Would the placement of the bullets hinder the performance of the exauhst? Both the unequal and equal length crossover junctions have a X built into them for scavanging purposes. but I have heard that you should always put mufflers after the X.

I am seriously considering doing this.

Actually, that first pic posted above is identical to the one you've linked us to. That #6 car was featured in Chevy High Peformance, October issue. It's a modern remake of Mark Donohue's Penske #6 car.

So, you'd essentially have header collector mufflers, right? If it's straight through bullets you're talking about, why NOT do it? Anyone with exhaust knowledge know why he should not do this?
