What is the best way to do a headder install on a lift?
I might be able to use a lift for my header install. Which I know will be alot better than doing it on my garage floor. My question is what is the best way to go about doing the install on a lift? Will I still need to unhook the steering linkage and grind off part of the block like alot of you had to do? Just looking for some pointers. TIA, justin

I only needed to unhook the steering linkage. I am not for sure if I even needed to do that. The steering linkage was not harder than the dipstick tube or the plugs on the passenger side so I think you should be able to get this install done with out grinding anything. Having the lift will help out a bunch so pay a little $ if you have to use one. I think you will find it easier to reuse the factory bolts, and most on the this site say screw paper gaskets.

I just loosened the bolt in the center of the linkage so it could flex a little...then a buddy of mine pushed the headers throug(grunting)while I pushe sideways on the motor to flex it a little....popped right in...have done this many times this way....

99TranTrany, Are you going to be using a two or four post lift? If you're talking about what I call the engine casting ears I would use a saws all instead of a grinder, if you use a grinder you'll have aluminum all over the place. BTW, do you need a picture of the casting ears?

Yes DARK AGE I would like to see a pic if you have one. Im not sure what kind of lift it is. My cousin is a team leader at a toyota delaership and said I could probably use one of the bays on the weekend.

DARK AGE, I'd like to see the picture . . .
This picture ( painted red in picture ) shows the right side casting, there's also one on the opposite side of the engine.
