Default Why does a bunch of blue smoke exit my exhaust.

If I sit idle for longer then like 10 minutes if I rev it theres a shitload of blue smoke what does that mean? I did notice that my oil consumtion did accelerate a lil bit. My poor ol ls1 on it's way out?

you sure its blue? how many miles are on your motor? sounds like bad rings or valve seals

EDIT--- do a compression test, and a leakdown test on it...should help you solve your problem

that usually means oil is burning. could be rings, valve guide seals. how is it when your first start up any smoke then?

i have the same problem. lately ive been driving more responsibly. so i never see or smell the oil anymore.

although last night i was cruising around and i was at a red light under the freeway and we all know how sexy LTs sound at 5k in a concrete enclosure so i gave it a few clean revs and damn! my car just bellowed blue smoke for like a minute. it was bad!

I had the same problem. Smoke after it idled for a bit and letting off the gas. Replaced the valve seals and no more smoke and doesn't burn oil anymore. I would try that.

I agree with the valve guides as the problem.

Normally if you see puffs of blue smoke after starting up from a stop or idling - it is the valve guides.

If you see blue smoke all the time while driving it is rings...

Try doing a Leak Down test.. It should help isolate where your leakage is coming from ?

Have you checked your PCV system, could be the pcv is leaking oil into the Intake.?..

What year is your car ?.. early LS1's have bad PCV system/Valves.. swap in a newer style PCV Valve or upgrade to a LS6 pcv system.

hopefully its the valve guides. Not much of a problem to get those changed.

If its the rings on the other hand.......well a little more work
