Default exactly what engine is this

i bought a 98 ws6 a few months back but i know for sure its not the original engine. not to state the obvious i know its an LS1, thats not the question. i have center bolt valve covers and 241 heads. checking the head numbers, they were production LS1 heads from 01-04. where can i find a number on the block or somewhere that says exactly what i got?

You can look at the casting number on the block but don't know if it'll tell you what year it is. It's on the drivers side left hand deck above the trans flange. Some 01/02 cars got the LS6 block, 12561168. The 241 heads started appearing on late production 2000 cars, my friends 2K SS has them. Just a couple clues...

The block will actually have the date on it. Mine says 99 I think on the passenger side back of the block.

Engine #'s

1998.......12550592,12559846,12559090

1999.......12550592,12559846

2000.......12559378,12559846,12560626

2001.......12559378,12561168(Corvette/some lucky Camaro/Firebirds)

2002.......same as 2001 (service part# 12561166 2001-2004 LS1/LS6)

Number is on the DS back of motor below the head...can see it with a small mirror and a light source.

Center bolt valve covers are 99-2004, perimeter covers were 97-98, 241 heads I believe started late 2000 through 2004( I had 241's on my 00" SS.)

sweet! well while im putting LT's on my car i looked at the block number and found it is 12561168, which cross references with the LS6 block. ok, now i know its not a LS6, thats not the arguement here. its just cool i have a LS6 block with 241 heads in my 98. any other info i can get on what i have now? i know its got to be rated a little higher than my original 98 right? only other thing im lacking is the LS6 intake to basically be a 01-02.
