Default 02 Temp guage.

I heard that the later LS1 F-body's got a dummy temp guage that sits at almost half no matter what. Is there a way to swap it for an earlier year to make it 100% accurate? Or how can i make it accurate?

Your dash gauge reads 210 degrees for the actual temperature range from 180 to 226 degrees. Only the 98 had an accurate gauge IIRC.
If you want a fully accurate gauge you will need to install an aftermarket temperature gauge.

Somebody posted a mod to calibrate temp gauge but it's been awhile and I don't know if it would be worth the effort.Aftermarket gauges work mighty fine.

I installed Autometers gauge with all the LS1 specific parts, adapters, wire sizes, etc. The damn thing reads too low.
As compared to HP Tuners anyway. I know I have a 186 degree stock thermostat so I find it hard to believe it runs at 190 all the time, maybe it does.

I've also seen hp tuners read 235 when the stock guage was reading a hair over 210.

So i take it that we cant just get a guage out of an eariler ls1 model and use that to be accurate? Why would GM do such a thing as make the guages less accurate?! Then again i wouldnt put it pas them considering they made the tach slow....God I hate GM sometimes.

Well i was hoping there was a way to alter the stock guage to read correctly. But if not then i guess i will either have to go with an aftermarket guage or intigrate it to a carputer system i might be adding in soon.
