Default Stock thermostat shim mod - anyone do an '02? Apart now...

I got my 'stat off the car to try and do the shim
mod to reduce crackpoint. But my 'stat looks way
different from what's shown on the ls1info page
(which site is down, when I looked) I had printed.
If I shim it even 0.120" the rubber seal no longer
seats.

Is this normal for whatever year's 'stat this howto
was based on? And, has anyone done this to a later
model and can tell me what shim thickness & temp
you ended up at?

Well, I cut a shim chunk of 1/8" welding rod. It
mic'd out at 0.095" (was trying for the 0.100"
that was supposed to make the (old model?) tstat
in the howto pull in to 180F). On mine it looks
like it wants to be 183-185F (from 194F). Have
to wait for it to get done passing air though.
I guess the thermostat doesn't have to seal,
seal. Should've gone a little thicker, like
maybe 0.15" or so, to hit 180F.

FWIW, the plunger hole on this newer style
'stat is only a little over 1/8" ID and a
BB wouldn't have fit.
