Question misfiring.....help

put full length headers on my 01 ta, rear 02's are disconnected, made extensions for the front ones, developed a nasty on and off sputter/misfire, re did the connections on the extended wires, no change........ HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

u may need a tune. when installing LTs, a tune is recommended

Did you take the plugs out? If not you may have cracked one. If you changed them whats the gap? You could have cracked one just changing them too.

you may also have bad ignition coils cause mine did the same thing and starting driving really bad

that sucks misfires are like lil ****** gremilins sometimes...mine turned out to be the last person to change my plugs (where i work) broke or damamged my plug wire on #3 and used the elect tape fix...

I don't think its plugs cause its not constant

Dude check the plugs. I had the same problem. It would only do it under load and when the engine got warm.

A car doesn't require a tune just cause of headers. Atleast not bad enough to cause misfiring. A cracked plug won't be consistent but if you run a scanner of some sort you will have misfires in the same banks, and I almost guarantee its the plugs. Pull them and check for cracks.

Coils adn wires are rarely the issue, had this happen to me when I did it and we checked everything before realizing I had cracked plugs.

if you made home made extensions thats the problem, you cant cut into the stock o2 sensor, they actually transfer oxygen through them and your throwing everything off, shouldnt have been cheap, o2 sextensions are like 50 bucks now you need some and new oxygen sensors

X2 that's exactly what i was getting at but no one would reply. Not sure that they transfer oxygen through them but the resistance in the wires is so sensitive that any interruption in the wires will throw them off very badly. If you have a live data scanner you might be able to catch it.

I soldered the extensions, they are fine, just put new plugs in it today, checked the wires, no cracks or anything (taylor 10.4's) no changes........ugh!!!!

oh yeah forgot to add, the engineer from SLP told me its ok to make the extensions, as long as you cut the connector on the engine side of the wire, (not on the o2 sensor wire itself)

yeah its ok on the engine side but not on the actual sensor itself. well then i would say check the ect sensor, (engine coolant temoreture) its on the side of the head, its RARE but ive seen where the connector wires come off with all that movemet, wiggle them while the cars running and that may give you an indication somethings up

Check the resistance in the plug wires, check for ANY loose wires, check that ur coil packs are giving spark..

if that fails u know it's not ur plugs at all. probably electrical, not likely fuel.

Go back over your extensions on the front o2's and make sure you didn't get any wires crossed.

incorrect, i cut and extended my drivers side 2 days ago during my install and im running like a top. dont spread misinformation. now if he did it incorrectly thats a different story.

i would guess spark plugs, if they are stock plugs you may just need to replace them with some better plugs because the gap on them is very large from factory.
