Default Is this for real? 33.4hp gain with SLP exhaust set-up?

I came across this and was amazed, is this for real? It was in GMhightechperformance magazine. They dyno a stock 2002 camaro ss, then put slp's long tubes/catted y/ and cat back then dyno it for a gain of 33.4hp over stock. One thing I'm confused on, are these numbers at the wheels or at the motor? The dyno sheet says "SAE wheel corrected"

With a baseline of 301.6hp and 315.9 lb-ft of torque, the SS was quite healthy for factory stock. But with SLP's long tube headers, Y-pipe, and PowerFlo exhaust, it was now churning out 335.0hp and 340.0 lb-ft on SLP's SuperFlow dyno. That's a gain of 33.4hp and 24.1 lb-ft with no other changes! The headers seemed to deliver as promised, widening the gap from 4500rpm up to redline; meanwhile the after-cat didn't seem to hurt performance though it was quite docile at low rpm and idle.

its possible, but not every engine is the same. so im sure some may be lower and possibly higher. and im sure since slp made it, someone will say no way it made that much power.

Ive been looking up alot of full exhaust systems, trying to figure out what to get. Most readouts of full exhausts seem to be aroun 30-35 hp...

That is typical of any longtube, ory(or high flow catted y), and free flowing catback.

Was this SLP's latest header design? Their first go-around was known to not perform very well and hung way too low, but their revised design is much more in line with the current offerings from other companies.

Either way, the gains are very believeable. These cars tend to surprise people with how much power they can put down with bolt-ons, and even moreso when you start digging into the engine (especially the cam).

25rwhp for headers and 10rwhp for the catback? Seems reasonable to me. With a tune, 40-50rwhp total isn't unheard of. I went from 303rwhp to 338rwhp with a tune.

Man... I have never dyno'd my car before or after I installed everything in my Sig but I definately couldn't feel 35 more HP. It could be just because it is SO FREAKIN LOUD!! It makes it hard to tell if its any faster or just Ungodly loud. It's definatley a fast car but I didn't notice a huge SOTP gain when I did it.

I dont know. It's hard to explain............

My car picked up 52rwhp from bone stock to Kooks 1 7/8 LTs,3" Ypipe & GMMG,ASP Crank Pulley & Dynotune, otherwise BONE STOCK.
Stock was 288rwhp after that was 340rwhp. Dyno'ed stock and modded on the same day.

My car wasn't any faster after I put on headers. The tune got thrown so far off the car would bog and it smelled really, really rich at idle. At high rpm's, it was pretty lean, too. I wasn't getting any black soot on my tailpipes anymore. A dynotune gave me 40rwhp/50rwtq. That's how far off the headers through the tune. For all intents and purposes, headers and a tune yielded me 40rwhp/50rwtq. Sounds like you're in my boat and need a dynotune.

Not sure how much I gained overall. I put my headers/ory on, hit the road for 1800 miles and got a tune in my home town. Baseline with the headers and mods listed below I put down 275.6 hp and 295.4 tq. My tuner said I was running super lean. After a little tweaking I ended up with 308.7 hp and 317.6 tq. This is thru a geared A4, with 3.73s and she just hit 150K on the odometer. From what I have seen this is about average for a bolt on A4 without the ls6 intake or pulley.

Quick Reply: Is this for real? 33.4hp gain with SLP exhaust set-up?
