I was under the impression if you kept your AIR/EGR, and got headers that had all the emissions fittings, they would stay legal. Its when you start deleting stuff like AIR/EGR that you run the risk, DEFINITELY not legel to dump the cats. Anyone else??

You forgot about Cats. If you take out the cats, or replace with high performance Cats, you run the risk of failing emissions. You could have someone rig a bypass for Cats/no cats, but very expensive. I kept my stock Y pipe and Cats, went with Edelbrock shorty headers. Bolt right up and no clearance issues with long tubes.

Technicaly, there is no such thing as 50 state legal full length headers because that would relocate the cats farther from the engine. That said, as long as you have cats with your long tubes, you will probably pass anyway.

That is absolutely correct. There is a federal law that says you can not relocate cats. Any mid length or LT headers forces you to relocate the cats. So the answer is no there is not a 50 stale legal LT header.

However shortie headers can be legal since they do not force you to relocate the cats. They are not worth the money and effort though since they gain so very little. Most people who live in testing areas get HF cats with thier LT headers so they can pass a sniffer test. You still run the risk of failing if they do a visual and know what they are looking for. Just go when they are busy and have a fifty dollar bill with you and odds are you will drive away with a passing vehicle

That's cool. I just like to play it safe and legal. I'll have to think about it some more before I pull the trigger.

Safe and legal... LOL, it's YOUR car, mod it how you want. Until the government starts paying for my cars I will do with them as I please.

There are ALWAYS ways around emissions, the $50 bill mentioned above is one way...
