Question go with pacesetter or stay with mac?

hey all. since pacesetter longtubes are at a great price right now, i was thinking about going with them and selling my mac's. but i was wondering what kind of gains could be expected between the 2 with my mods? also, i'm looking to do a cam, ls6 intake, and bigger valves install and porting my heads late next year so i know the longutbes will help there but again how much will they help? any info is appreciated.

I would, but I hate the sound of Mac's after having them for a year and a half. I went with Pacesetters on my current car. If anything you will at least pick up some low end torque.

I'm installing a set of Coated Pacesetters right now along with my Patriot heads and TSP cam. For the price of these headers I don't think you could go wrong. I will no more about performance of them in a couple of days.

macs make great hp but the LT will help out the low end tq, if that is a concern. i personally hate the way the Macs sound with open catbacks. LTs sound SO much better!

whats so bad aboutthe way Mac headers sound. i have them with the off road y pipe and loud mouth and they sound completley nasty. if that sound is bad ill take it any day of the week.

Do the Pacesetters need porting like the Mac do? There was a lot of weld build up in each each port and the collector in my Macs. I had to use an extra long carbide burr to grind it out of both collectors.

AFAIK the pacesetter LT's are mandrel bent, should have all that much build up. I haven't read anything about anyone who gets them needing to mess with them much at all other then just bolting them on their car. Good performances gains all around, I don't think many are unhappy about their purchase of the pace LT's.

IMO unless your going with a cam then your probably wasting your time...macs are great for a bolton car...

TTT

Found this thread in a search and I have the same questions. Anyone have any comparos dyno or track wise from MACs to Pacesetters?? My car is currently just bolt-ons but soon will be doing a cam and maybe before the end of the year doing heads also. Right now these are the only LT's I am considering for the price since I am on a very tight budget. I dont plan to by the y-pipe, i would like to stick with duals so any help on this would be greatly appreciated

MAC's and Pacesetters offer almost the exact same gain in the higher RPM ranges, but Pacsetters, along with any LT will offer more power down low where the MAC's lack.

I would rather just put 4.30 gears in the place of my 4.10's. It would feel better then the difference of long tubes

There is probably not much of a gain IMO between the two in the upper RPM range because the Mac's do flow well with some modifications. I'm going to cut off the header to Y pipe connection and weld a 3 inch pipe in place because the ball flange disrupts the exhaust flow in that area and should flow a little better for my setup along with a new flowmaster collector.

I have a new set of mandrel bent duals with X pipe, dynomax bullets, and turnouts for $350.......that is if you want to reap the full benefit of free flowing high scavenging exhaust. Lighter, cheaper, more power than ORY + catback.......Oh and it'll sound killer too!!!!!!!!!!

for those curious ill be staying with my macs

i cut the ballflanges off and made 3" collectors and next time i have them off ill be porting out the primary welds

lt's may make a little bit more down low but my car stays above 4500 at the track anyways

If you open up the collector, and get rid of the ball flanges on the Macs it will completely change the sound of them and provide more power..

IMO it's a waste of time. Cut off the ball flanges, and put gears in the car. You'll notice a MUCH bigger difference than wasting your time selling, and swapping headers for a mere 5-8 ft lbs of TQ....
