Question Heater hoses

Has anyone replaced their LS-1 heater hoses yet?

There are a pair of intermediate metal pipes that the coolent runs through as it passes near the exhaust. I suppose GM thinks that the rubber won't stand up to the heat.

1 - How do I remove and re-attach the new rubber hoses to the metal pipes?
It looks like the pipes are crimped to hold onto the rubber hoses.

2 - Autozone and Advance sell molded hose pieces for $20-25 each. But that adds up. Two pieces from the block to the pipes and two pieces from the pipes to the heater = $100 for some rubber hose. Anyone know where molded rubber pieces can be bought for less?

3 - Can I just run hose straight from the block to the heater and not worry about GM's metal pipes?

I think #3 would work . . . but if you want to retain the pipes, just whack the connector off with a cutoff wheel or hack saw, slip the new hose over the metal tube and and throw some hose clamps on there.
