Default Has any one pulled a LS1 out of an fbody from the top? If so, how?

First of all, I'm expecting this thread to get moved but I really didnt know where to put it.

Ok, I bought a 01 t/a roller after my '02 Formula was stolen and the roller has a blown engine. Well I have NO access to any lifts but I can get an engine lift so I need to pull it from the top, anyone tried this and if so how did you do it, how long did it take, and how many people do you need for it. Any advice will be great. Thanks in advance!

after removing the: tranny, intake, heads, and all the accessories, you have to wrestle it out.(tilting it sideways and stuff) Its a pain but it can be done

why not pull it from the bottom all you need is a engine host (attach to radiator support) and you can drop the k/motor/tras in a matter of a few hours

much easier the traditional motor pulling

I pulled mine from the top 2 months ago and it wasn't that bad i also installed it from the top. You just need to remove the intake. The Heads can stay on. I also dropped the trans to pull it out but i installed it with the trans connected to the motor.

Its not hard at all to get it out the top. Granted it is easier out the bottom. You do have to strip it to a long block for it to come out the top tho.

I've pulled the intake off and pulled out the tranny/engine together from the top. I don't find it any more difficult that doing it from the bottom, it's mostly a matter of preference.

I did the exact same thing. It was easy. I used the QTP plate and had two people doing it. One working the lift and pushing it back while I guided the motor/trans out. A good tip is once it's up a little, unbolt the motor mounts from the k member. It gives it more room and makes the job a lot easier.

Did you do this with the Condensor still in?

I got mine out through the top completely assembled with the trans still attached. I to the radiator and what not out the way and CUT the upper core support brace. Had all the room in the world to get everything out then.

(I cut it to reposition the radiator for a turbo setup)
