Question LS6 intake/Coolant pipe & plugs question

I will be installing a LS6 intake soon and have seen that most people use the coolant pipe and plugs kit because of clearance issues. My question is, since you are blocking off some of the coolant passages, won't this be bad for parts of the engine and possibly overheat in some places? I'm not sure of the path of the coolant lines back there but it just seems like a bad idea to be blocking off coolant ports

Also, I know some people just grind the bottom of the LS6 and tap the line down. Will this always work and should I just save some money and do it this way?

Thanks everyone

Yes, people say that there are problems with the two rear cylinders, especially number 7. Just take a hammer and a chisel and knock the ribs off. It takes 15 minutes and will save you 60 dollars from the coolant line and plugs. I actually just took the ribs off 10 minutes ago, very easy. I used a hammer and flathead screw driver.

Go to this thread, it gives a lot of insight: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...anifold-2.html

THANKS A LOT! This is exactly what I was looking for! Now I can save ~$60 and prevent any #7 cylinder problems.

Glad I could help. It's very easy to knock the ribs off, I doubt there is any way to mess it up.

yea those ribs are really easy to remove. then just carefully hammer down the coolant lines so they are flush with the motor and you should be fine

I wish I could have kept them when I went with the FAST intake.... maybe I'll look into what needs to be done to run them and see if there is a chance to make them work.

You can also get two of the lines that you use up front and just plug the end that goes into the TB and use it in back with no mod to the intake.

I knocked the ribs out, but didn't hammer the coolant lines down. it still fit perfectly in there.

Sweet. I'll hopefully get around to doing it next week.

I did the ls6 intake modification method (rib removal and coolant tap down) and its been flawless so far...

Make sure that you take your intake and place it on the heads (without the gaskets!) to see if you clear the coolant pipes. Once your intake is sitting flat without the gaskets, put the gaskets on and torque it down.

tip: there are some plastic clips holding the knock sensor harness that should be removed and replaced with tape... My ls6 intake didn't clear those.
