Default Major MSD news concerning the red 8.5mm wire

MSD has a current issue with their 8.5mm red wire. They were unaware of this issue until I brought it to their attention. The wire is defective. It is not 8.5mm and has no rigidness to it at all. It did not get cured properly and so is like a wet noodle.

It is getting into and being used in their wire sets. They have an automated system and did not know. I make thousands of wires by hand and knew right away and took action. I have refused over 1500 feet of wire in the past week alone and am working with MSD to correct this issue. The black wire is fine.

I would not purchase any red MSD wires with a date code of April 09 and forward. The stuff dated back in 08 is ok. Any wires coming from me will be good wire.

I will not be sending any red wires until this is taken care of. MSD is on top of it and should have it resolved shortly. They will expedite the corrected wire to me at that time.

What about milk cartons? I think i bought one in the past week could have been from you or another sponsor. Can you tell me what date codes to watch for on that too? It wasnt red OR black. I'm so confused!

On a serious note though, there aint nothin worse than a limp wire. Chicks wont look twice at them.

Ok, so i kid, but anyway good eye. well done.

I just bought some Red MSD 8.5 mm super conductor wires from autozone. The date showing on the box is 06/09/09. Is there any way tell if my wires are defective? If they are defective is there any thing I can do to get them replaced by MSD?

Just take the wire and bend it and see if it bends easy enough to bend back all the way against itself. Good 8.5mm wont make a tight bend real easily. If you make a U shape the inside part of each ear of the U should not touch easily. The defective wire will you can take a 6 inch piece and tie into several knots. The good wire wont do it.

I would contact MSD if you have the bad wire, they are now aware of it and should issue a replacement when they get good wire.

I over nighted a sample of good wire and what they are putting out now to them and am waiting to hear back as to when good wire will be available.

Obviously this is huge concern for me, I will get it straightened out.

UPDATE... MSD IS MEETING TODAY WITH THE WIRE MFG. They will contact me with an ETA for the good wire when it becomes available.

NEW INFO
Due to new environmental standards the jacket material had been altered from the previous formula. It is now more silicone based and as so is more heat resistant and pull resistant. But is also softer to touch and much hard to strip due to the pull resistant strength. It is also slightly thinner than it should be and MSD has addressed that with the MFG of the wire.
The core of the wire was never effected and was never in question, it is still the lowest resistance of any helically wound wire.

I noticed the difference right away and took action. We now have resolve and explanation and I will begin producing wires again. Thank you for your patience.
The wire is now 100% produced in the United States now as well

Default more questions than answers

Having just purchased a set of 8.5MM red wires for my 5.3 hybrid in June, this thread caught my eye. I contacted MSD support and talked to Bass (yes, like the fish).
He denies any sets of wires being defective.

What to do, what to do...
