Check Gage Light After New Alternator install,Why?

Default Check Gage Light After New Alternator install,Why?

I had to put a new Alternator on my 408 I was around 10.5 on the cars stock gage.I choose to go with a 160 amp alternator do to all the extra's I am running.Got the new alt in and Now I have check Gages light?Why is this because I now have 14.5 v on the gage?

It will say check gauges if the voltage is either too high, or too low.

Yeah but its not that much voltage,maybe I should disable the check gage light for the Alt in the pcm if its possible?

Maybe the volt gauge is reading wrong.

The alternator has a little extra cable that goes on top of it apart from the main cable. It can be easily missed or the plug broken. Also, did you change the cable to a higher gauge? Sometimes this is needed to get the full benefit of the this new high output alternator...thing to consider.

Like Chaman said, make sure the exciter wire isn't broke/unplugged. It'll flash the check gauges light and the car won't charge correctly without it.

Nope I plugged the little red wire back into the Top of the Alt.How do I know if it is broken though?I still have factory gauge wire

I'm not an expert for sure but I just checked mine tonight. I disconnected it at the alternator and with the key turned on used a meter to check for voltage.
Figuring if I had a beak in the wire it would read 0, but it read between 6-7 volts so I think it should be good. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
