Fuel guage driving me crazy

Fuel guage driving me crazy sometimes it reads close to full and after driving a bit it reads half full and so on. Yesterday it
read 1/4 tank, I put 4 gallons in it to get to 1/2 tank and it zooms to full tank..what the *** should I do?
