Default Dual Catch Cans?

Is it really necessary to have dual catch cans? Doesn't the air from the throttle body line go FROM the throttle body TO the valve cover, so there is no need for a can in that line? Thanks.

A long thread, but every question is answered in this link with pictures, instructions, single and dual, and for both systems - FI and NA.
