Default Best Catback for Stock, later to LT/ORY?

I've been searching for some time now, and I still can't decide what catback I want, or if I'm looking at all options.

My car needs a catback (98 Z28), right now just stock manifolds with cats, but before the winter I'm going to Pacesetter LT's and an ORY. I'm looking for the best semi-budget catback that would sound decent on both stock and lt's.

I've considered the Rumbler, Jeg's, and the Hooker. All are around what I want to spend, but I'd like to get some opinions. I am leaning towards the Jeg's catback at the moment. Also in the future I'd be going to a heads/cam combo.

Hooker is the best bang for buck. Have you checked out ls1sounds to see which ones you might like better?

Come to think of it, ive heard LM1 sounds good with stock manifolds but that changes once the LTs and ORY enter the equation

Yeah with a catted y it sounds great, but if you take off the cats it is really raspy.

IMO I have Hooker nice deep tone, not too crazy loud or raspy. One of the best flowing catbacks around.

Make your own. Go to Summit and buy the Dynomax 3" I-pipe, over-the-axle pipe, and a Hooker Maximum Flow 3" in/out offset muffler. Get a local exhaust shop to make you a 3" tailpipe. Sounds great and no off-the-shelf catback flows better. The whole package is about $250.

I had a GMMG which was great with stock manifolds and obnoxious with LT/ORY. I'm running the Max Flow setup now and couldn't be happier.

I am going to try a used SLP Dual Dual. I had a SLP LM1 and it sounded TERRIBLE! Believe it or not my SS actually sounds better with just the Y-pipe and NO catback over the SLP LM1...LoL!

Do you have a sound clip of either? That is, your open Y-pipe vs. the LM1. I've heard a car with LT's and open Y-pipe. Its just loud, with no real tone. Loudmouth is loud, but it isn't that bad. I have it on my car with LT's and a catted Y. Its loud, but it sounds good.

My bro has the factory installed SLP Dual Dual on his SS. We added LT's/ORY and its still pretty quiet. You'll definitely notice a difference between it and the Loudmouth. LOL

I don't have any clips but there was a god awfull RASP about 2000-2500RPM...so much so that I would try to avoid that range as much as posssible...that is unless the right pedal was to the floor; then it sounded GOOOOD! This DD that I am getting has a good bit of miles on it so maybe it won't be as quiet as some of the low mileage cars out there. I have heard that over time because the the mufflers design it inheritely gets louder. I was also debating the HOOKER catback, but this is cheaper for now. I was talking with a shop about fabbing true duals but all the ones I have heard are pretty loud and costly too. I found a fabricators kit for about $300.00, for true duals, without mufflers but it has to be pieced together.
