Default Odd question, what is the most "quiet" exhaust setup?

Buddy has a 00' Formula, and he wants to know what is the most QUIET, yes quiet, sounding exhaust setup he could put on his car because he wants to be stealth/sleeper like since his car looks like a regular Firebird apart from the Formula badges on the door.

He wants to be able to have dual cutouts with headers so at whatever moment he wanted he could have really loud exhaust, but for the most part he wants to have the most quiet sounding exhaust. Is this possible? Thanks

Find a used SLP dual/dual or a stock WS6/SS exhaust.

Headers are going to be a dead give away IMHO. I'm not sure how much different shortys willl be but LT's will be noticeable almost immediately. My set up is far more quiet at idle than I thought it would be but then again you can tell right away that it isn't stock.

If he wants a real sleeper than get a V6 muffler and single tailpipe...then have the cutouts at the headers open on a window switch(RPM based) or WOT trigger like a nitrous kit has.

You would be really suprised how quiet SLP dual/dual is with long tubes and an ORY! I ran that for awhile but it was too damn quiet that I put a hooker catback on to enjoy the sound more.

Here are a couple clips of my bro's SS with LT's/ORY and Dual/Dual. This is about as quiet as you can get if you go with anything other than the factory exhaust.

The idea to put a V6 catback on it is a pretty cool idea. I'd love to hear how that sounds. If you decide to do that, you should really post a sound clip or video.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you decide, by giving us some updated posts. Good luck.

Another vote for the SLP dual/dual if you can find one. That is what I put on my car and it sounds great with my setup. It hardly gets noticed. When I had a magnaflow on it, it was very loud by comparison and people would pull up next to me all the time and ask me what the car had in it.

Yeah he wants electric cut outs so at a flip of a switch he can have loud exhaust .

What about long tube headers>electric cut outs off each header>and then a y pipe (catalytic converter)>(muffler?)>and then end with the tail pipes

Would smaller pipes overall after the cuts outs make it more quiet?

I would go with a custom 3in ypipe with a 3in 4out Flowmaster merge, 4in Cutout in the cubby hole and a stock catback.

A friend of mine has that exact same set up on his H/C car and no joke if you passed him driving you would never know he had anything done to his car. With the cutout open it wakes the dead.

I see no need for dual cutouts at anything under 500rwhp. A single 4in will flow more than needed for most street cars.

A buddy has a LS2 GTO with LT's and the stock exhaust was replaced with same size mandrel bent tubes with stock mufflers and it sounds stock, except the 12# Procharger whining under the hood and H/C runs 10s, nice to pull up next to a loud V8 thinking the GTO is stock on slicks and then gets smoked!

You could try that and just add the cutouts after the collector, though I also like the V6 muffler single pipe idea. I always look for the tail pipe and when its the single pipe or the RS dual pipes bent down =FAIL!

Good idea, but how long will it take for everyone to find out the sleeper is just that... a sleeper. Work well for bout 6 months and then you've spent the money on super quiet or super loud exhaust instead of something more in between that you'd enjoy. I had same idea untill I thought of that. JMO though.

I say build your motor for a 300 shot of juice, no high lift/duration cam maybe high lsa but, that also another subject!!! no long/short tube headers. if you can find/build stock headers, cut out for each side and stock exhuast system should do the trick!!!! but headers on any car will not sound quiet!!!!

LS6 intake manifold, ported 241 heads, 224r lsa116,lt's, catted y,Ecutout,stock catback.

and if that isnt enough put a halo nitrous kit on it.

i know you asked for exhaust, but just giving your buddy future thoughts lol

stealth does go so far... eventually everyone at your meet will know its faster than it sounds, only fun you will get is random highway runs with strangers.

I've got slp d/d, macs/ory, cutout. When it's capped, it's really really quiet. It still doesn't hide my cam though. Some of the d/d sets came with a "conical" filler that closed the inside diameter to less than 1" from what I've heard.

If he has the stock Formula wheels than thats a pretty dead giveaway its a Formula.

Try the V6 exhaust and see where it gets you.
