Default why pin the balancer?

So if the balancer already has a keyway on it why go the extra mile and pin it also? I have the tool coming already but seems over kill no? Does the key break on them or what? And how would they spin off without it being pinned?

What's your setup? I see that you have a 94, but it also says that you are running a procharged 6.0L. As the others have said, the LS's do not have a keyed crank, hence the reason that you would need to pin it in your situation, which I'm assuming is procharged.

the keyway on the ls series motor is just for the timing gear and oil pump drive, unless the crank in the motor you're running has been machined for a longer keyway to also locate an aftermarket crank pulley
