Default Water Pump Gaskets . . .

took off my water pump and found the gaskets are the metal one's and the rubber inside is falling off, so before i even say the mileage on the pump i have brand new gaskets in my room i'm thinking of throwin on the new gaskets and puttin the pump back on or should i just get a new pump? the pump still works and does it's job, only thing wrong is the gaskets.

assuming i actually get responses on this thread, at that point i'll tell what the mileage on the pump is but i'd like to here some people's thoughts on this first

if the pump is not leaking from any seals or internally, just change the gaskets, tq it to 18 ftlbs and call it good.

I would give it a go with new GM gaskets. Is there any play in the water pump pully? Any coolant leaking from the water pump shaft?

Put some new gaskets in and call it a day. Use GM's, Not a paper style.

i dont see the problem. 90k on a water pump is nothing major. there are plenty of LS1's out there with 100k more miles than yours and the water pumps are still in good shape.

my buddy has a 03 avalanche with a 5.3 in it and it has almost 300k miles on it and the waterpump is not leaking or anything. i assure you, your water pump is fine.

If it's sticking out of the block try to get some vice grips on it.

dam how much did u tq them to?
i usually tighten hand tight and then around 90* or around 16lb/ft
no problems with pump, my truck has 300k miles. so there is no prob with your 90k pump, unless some debris got in ther and damaged something

A small pipe wrench will bite into the threads so you can crack it loose. Then you should be able to remove it by vise grips with ease.

11ft lbs, upon closer look at the bolts i'm thinking this was bound to happen beings they look rusted and shitty. i'm willing to bet these were the original bolts for when the car was manufactured in 1999, the water pump was replaced almost 4 years ago by a dealership and doubt they put in new bolts.
