Default Can't seal up thermostat....

I did a cam swap this weekend and went with a new pump and t-stat. All is well except I can't get the thermostat sealed properly. I've tried the oring, oring+rtv, oring+rtv+paper gasket. No combination works. It looked like the stocker had an oring and rtv gasket maker.

Any advice?

I'd say try a brand new o-ring if you haven't already. Also check if there is any debris where the o-ring sits on the t-stat and the pump.

Yup, make sure everything is clean, and then try a new o-ring, if that doesnt do it try the paper gasket, with a light coat of rtv on both sides, no o-ring with paper gasket. If you still have problems, maybe you have a distorted thermostat housing.

Are you using a torque wrench?

Skip the paper and the RTV.

Next time you take off the housing, clean all that crap off the housing and check to see if it's warped (the likely problem) or cracked. Ditto for the water pump. Use a NEW "o" ring and torque the bolts to 20 ft. lbs.

No more leak.
