Default Can I use a LQ4 Engine in my LS1 car?

We need a motor, and I have quick access to the LQ4. I have some z06 heads in the garage, and a ls1 cam I could put in it. What would I need to do to make this work?

Yes you can..

Direct swap. You will need to use the LS1 intake, windage tray, pick-up tube and oilpan. Plus your front accessories.

The tray that sits under the crank. Its different on the LQ4, because of the different shaped oil pick-up tube.

The windage tray is inside the oil pan. And yes it is an easy swap and provides that nice torque that some LS1's don't have.

You will have to use your stock waterpump, alt, p/s, and idlers & tensioners.

Basicly the longblocks are the same.

The oil pick-up tube. The long tube that runs off your oil pump with the screen on the other end.

can I put the ls1 heads and cam in this for some power gains or should I leave it the way it is and do exhaust and intake?

If I remember right you want a 2001+, the older 6.0's had a spacer on the crank that wont work with 4l60e. And in 04+ the LQ4's got the same rod and rod bolts as the LQ9's.

Which heads do you have?
If they are 243 heads then you would want to use them. I debated about using my stock 241 heads for the comp but decided to use the 317 heads for the better flow.

With the stock LS1 vs. LQ4 cams, you wouldnt really be able to tell a differnce between the two.
F-Body cams-
98-00 LS1- 198/209 .500/.500 119.5LSA
01-02 LS1- 196/207 .467/.479 116LSA
Truck cams-
01+LQ4/9- 196/207 .467/.479 116LSA

eek, the motor i Have is not the lq4 then, we have a 5.3 liter in the garage. I thought I read somewhere that the motor could be made to work in place of the 5.7

LQ9's are the same except for dished pistons I believe. They only came in high end caddilac's and some H2's. They are very rare, and thus, are more expensive. Either way, most people change out the cam anyways so LQ9's are not that much better at all.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong...
