Default What does a leaky header/bad gasket sound like

Does anyone one have a video of a leaky header/bad gasket? I got this flutter sound at wot. Kind of like an exhaust leak. It only does it at wot above 40 mph. I checked for leaks. I had the headers welded to the y pipe.
So I think it could be a bad gasket. Any tips or help would be great!

Well it's not a ticking sound. More like a sputter or flutter sound.

That was how my leaky exhaust manifold gasket sounded. Did you check as thuroughly as possible around the gasket to see if you could spot any heavier black spots where exhaust could be escaping? Other than that, check around the collector and such. Other than that, I'd guess just wait till it gets more pronounced or have someone that's been around cars a while jump in and take a listen.

Odds are they are not your problem, pretty rare they ever leak, if the bolts are tight, look elsewhere.

snug the bolts, but be careful if you reused the factory bolts. I broke the #1 bolt off in the head while re-checking to make sure they were all snug. You will notice black soot on the head just above the header primary and flange if you have a leak. The ticking noise will usually be pretty apparent as well. What you most likely have is a small leak where the collector meets the y-pipe. This is pretty common if your headers and y-pipe have slip joints for the collector/y-pipe hookup.

It was my ported tb I had. I bought a different ported tb from a member on here and it fixed the car! No more sound. The car runs much better at idle. Pulls a bit more also.
