Default holy y-pipe resriction!!!!

i decided to add some thunderbolt high flow cats to my y-pipe this weekend.
the passenger side cat is located at the header and the driver side is at the bend right before the merge. when i cut the section of pipe off right before the merge i couldnt believe that it looked like ther was only a 2" or 2 1/2" hole at the merge. there was a ton of material that could be cut out to give it much better flow. i was just surprised since you would expect the merge area would be cleared out. i dont know who made it but it looks like all the other old y-pipes. i was in a hurry to get it done so i could get it inspected but im definetly going back in to clean up all the extra material.

How is the clearance with your cats?

As far as the merge, its hard to beat a custom Y setup with a 4" flowmaster Y pipe.

the cats are welded on but i might be able to get a picture from the merge end since its cut real short, ill look at it tomorrow to see if i can shine enough light into it so its visable.

the cats look like the magnaflow bullet shaped cats, they are 3" id pipe so they slip over the exhaust tube, the center is 4" at the largest point and are 11" long. i tacked them on as tight to the floorboard as possible without touching, this was a bitch since i was on my back and by myself, a extra pair of hands would have made it much easier.

kurtrardin, i just followed your link on your exhaust build. the pic of your old pacesetter merge with all the extra material is exactly the reason i started this post!

after looking at your pic im wondering if cleaning it up might not create more problems based on the angle of the merge. ok, so what im thinking is that currently the passenger side has fairly unobstructed flow so just maybe the driversides smaller entry point at the merge is purposely backed up to build more pressure when it merges since it coming in at a funky angle?

nah, its probably just shitty manufacturing!!!

You want to see a crappy y-pipe, check out my one I had made for my macs. Sure, it's got the flomaster merge, but look at the 2.5" pipes that are crush bent leading up to it. I did put down ~432hp with this setup.

And here is how it dyno'd (blue line), I wonder what my current qtp's and kooks ypipe got me.

Yikes. It looks like those bends are the only bad parts about it though, like it might have pretty good ground clearance.
