Question Need to vent Freon from A/C system, have ???

I'm tearing my motor down to install a different cam and adding a chrome EWP.

Since I'm doing all this work and the car will be down for a bit, I decided to add a little more flash to the car for car shows.

When your looking at the engine bay, just behind the battery there is a "A/C Can" that I want to take out so I can get it polished.

What is the best/easiest way to vent the freon from the system? I know the proper way is to take it to a shop and have them "recover" the freon, but that's not an option, the car is in no way to be able to run. (rockers, coil packs, fuel rail, air box, battery, etc are all out now)

Do I just unbolt things and let it leak out?

Thanks for any tips, would like to do this this afternoon....

Slowly disconnect the fittings at the top by the condensor. Make sure you tape over or plug the holes in the evaporator/dryer (thing you want to polish). It will go bad if you leave them open for a while.

Only legal way... take it to a shop and have it "recovered".

Have I ever done it that way.... um.. no.

Be sure you tape off all hose connections to the rest of the system.
If you leave the hose connections on the car open the system will draw in moister and you will have a/c problems later.

You don't have to remove it to polish it - I did mine with Maguire's Mag polish and some rags. Turned out great !

Save yourself the hassle.
