Default What the hell is this thing and what does it do???

Well my car all of a sudden shut off and wouldnt stay running. Thought i ran out of gas. Ended plugging this back in and it seems fine.

Is this the temperature sensor???

Its on the drivers side, right at the front of the headers.

Would this not being plugged in make my car not run right??

without your ECT sensor being plugged in your pcm reads the coolant temp as being -40 deg which it then loads it with fuel and floods causing it not to start.

I doubt that was the reason your car wouldn't stay running. I just went outside and disconnected mine while it was on and it didn't do anything. That's crazy...

My car ran good without it for about 10 mins. I guess until the motor got warm. Just replaced the alternator and forgot to put it back on

It is cold out here so it might be due to that that my car didn't act up. Also I only let it run for about 5 minutes.

Where is it loose?

At the threads? or is the connector loose

If the sensor is loose to the brass, then it might need to be replaced.

Mine ran fine till it came up to temp then shut off. Forgot to plug the temp sensor back in. Fired right up.

It will absolutely make your car not run. It will run VERY rough, until it eventually floods and dies.

I broke mine during the header install, and rigger it back together. Everytime I would start banging gears it would come loose, and start running horrible. I finally got off my *** and replaced it.
