Default mti clear lid fitment issue...

well i got a mti lid for x-mas and i went to try and install it the other day and i took the old stuff off cleaned everything up and went to test fit the lid before i connected the maf n cupplings... well i could not get the four little prongs to go in their "holes" and i didnt want to force it too much in fear that i would crack the lid... my gf got it from the WS6 store, what should i do? try it again or contact them and see if they will send me another one if i send this one back? does anyone know if they will?

Mine was like that at first also and i really had to force it, but after about a year it seems to have molded a little better. try getting it warm first

how do you think would be the best way to get it warm with out melting it or deforming it too much... i really like this lid a lot just wish it fit better...

spray some wd-40 or some type of oil/film and you'll be good just need to work them in as it's probably extremely stiff and you're extremely careful

I would hold it near the gas heater in my garage but if you dont have that just put it in the sink with some warm water

i had to trim the tabs a little and cut a small amount of plastic over the rad so the maf would fit better.

I bought a used clear lid off ebay right after i got my car in 05. I had to trim some off the tabs and than i had to double the seal to make it seal tighter. with out doubling the seal the clips would come undone after a spirited drive.

Sell it and get a different lid they fit like crap! Finally got mine to latch a week before throwing it in the trash for a LS1 motorsports lid.

Exact problem I have with the one that bought. Everytime you open the hood it has popped the clips loose. I took it back off and threw it in the back and reinstalled the first lid I ever bought. It continues to fit like a glove and gives no problem and it says Quartermile Performance on it. Now I know whos name that use to be do you? ? I believe Whisper made these lids. Oh and back to the Clear MTI LID. It is a total POS and I tried to return it but they wanted as much to replace it as I paid for it to start with.

Default Don't trash it!

Ok, first I went through all of the problems you had. This is simply what I did:
1) Forced it to fit. I didn't use excessive force, but it got a decent shove.
2) The clamps wouldn't stay shut! This was a problem til a member on here pointed out that the lid needs to "sit" in the black lip and not over (on the front). Since putting it in properly I had one clamp come off once. It's been 3000 miles-ish and 1.5 years on my car with light and heavy driving. I pop the hood regularly and it never comes off.

FYI - I bought mine on a group purchase on here and they were made in their own batch-mold but they were MTI lids.

Sell it and get a SLP lid. Best fitment. i had a clear lid and sold it after a month. Looks cool, but not worth crap getting in the motor/ cracking/ sealing etc.

I don't have problems with mine fitting at all. Yes, at first it was really a tight fit and it was even hellacious fit w/ the home depot rubber coupling mod. The seal with K&N filter was crap though so I replaced it w/ FRAM paper filter.

Very tight fit, just push down hard and jam those tabs in. My first mod in 2001, w/ K&N. I still run the rubber home depot MAF coupling too. Best looking lid, still get nemerous comments at shows. If you do not jam the lid in all the way that passenger tab will pop out due to engine twist. This lid is more rigid than the black plastic lids.

i've done all that and it still pops out... what cupplings did yall use from home depot? i used a 3in. for the one gong from the lid to maf and from the maf i used a 3 to 4 in going to the throttle body... was a real bitch to work with but in the end it looks really damn good! now if i could just get the damn clip to stay down...
