Optima is JUNK IMO. I would rather save 40 bucks and get a deka intimadator battery. they are still gell celled and last longer. I have had one in my 94 S15 for over 5 years with no problems.

I work in a parts store and they're not bad batteries, have one in my car and its been perfectly fine. What people neglect to do/know is you don't charge a gel-cell like you do a normal battery...

You can say that again. I didn't start my car for a week and it was completely dead after that.

mine has been in the car for over 5yrs

drained it down to almost nothing a few times. recharged it like any other battery (didn't know that's bad) and its always come back to life.

car used to sit for a month at a time between runs...always fired right up.

for a while i was having issues with the odo and radio resetting if it sat for a while, but that has gone away...same battery.

how are you supposed to charge them?

13.8 to 15.0 volts, 10 amps maximum, 6-12 hours approximate.
From optimas site. Ive found they don't like quick charges well.

Optimas are great, just can't leave small lights on, glove-box, console lights, even my radar will drain the ****** if I don't start it every week.

I had one and I was never satisfied with it. From day one, it seemed like it never was fully charged, then after 1 year, it was dead. Got a replacement Sears Platinum Diehard and have never had one issue. Great battery.

well i hardly ever get my car out, sometimes it sits for months at a time.

so maybe this battery isnt for me. i know the yellow top is more of deep cycle battery but (i cant believe) the Red top is having trouble holding a charge, if its not used daily.

i appreciate everyones opinion, keep the votes coming

mine seems to be working well... the car has lately been sitting for at least a month between startups. Although nearly dead each time i've started it, i figure a month or longer gives proper reason to go near dead..

I have a red top. The only time I ever have a problem with it is when I let the car sit in the winter. They drain pretty quick when its cold out.

I had this happen to me and got a replacement for it. Same thing happened to it. Got another replacement and sold it. Then put a "cheap" battery in the car and have had no issues with it. I drive the car mostly on the weekends and a day here or there, but it sits most of the winter.

I will not get a red top again, ever. I won't even put one in my DD.

Just curious, what's the advantage to having a red top vs a stock battery?
