they do affect exhaust notes, at least I noticed it when I installed my corsa clones, but for the most part ppl buy exhaust tips for aesthetics not function. I mean, I'm most positive that their won't be any dyno gains or track time advances from swapping out exhaust tips. probably won't even be any temperature differences either.

everyone i spoke to told me it was just for looks, there is no gains unless you are going from something that chokes it to something that allows it to freeflow, and i was also told the sound difference isnt even noticeable.

Exhaust tips won't make any difference except for looks. As long as the rest of the exhaust isn't touched, the car will perform the same way.

some tips have resonators in them... most noteworthy the ones they put on ricer cars for that angry bumble bee sound...some tips don't. They can change the exhaust note a little but if you already have full exhaust, you wont notice much difference.

power no... but they do make a tone difference. i hated the borla tips so i put on the 3.5 slash loud mouth tips and the borla exhaust didnt sound the same. my buddy ended up using the borla tips and his exhaust had a tone difference. my brother bought a 80 series muffler and took off his stock z28 tips and threw on some autozone rounded ones and it sounded alot better with the stock tips.

I just cut the tips off of my stock exhaust and my uncle welded it on my magnaflow catback for me. I ran it with no tips then with the stock tips and I didn't hear a difference.

I know this is off topic, but I can't stand those Chevy emblem exhaust tips.

I can say I did have those sqare tips on a 99 Camaro I had. I thought those tips looked a little restictive and yep they were. After several mods I was bored and say the way the lips are rolled. So I found some square c4 tips, (big square) and I noticed a bit more up top.
