Default Thermostatic Oil Cooler Adapter

We are now a dealer for MOCAL and we have a great little product from them in stock: an oil cooler adapter for LS-series engines with a built-in thermostat.

The great thing about these adapters is that you don't need to run an external thermostat. This means you not only save some cash and need fewer lines and fittings, but your engine will receive oil quicker during startup since the oil cooler is bypassed directly at the block. If you plan on installing an oil cooler this is the perfect solution.

Can I run an accumulator and that product without having to connect the accumulator to the output side of that product? Would like to still be able to prelube the engine before starting when cold. Thanks.

You don't want to connect the accumulator to the output side of the adapter, since the oil in the accumulator wouldn't make it into the engine until the thermostat opens. Instead, plumb the accumulator separately to one of the other oil ports on the block.

Sure, if you want to add an oil cooler, this is probably the best way to do it.

Does the oil sender tap into the angled stub on top near the Mocal stamp? How much clearance is there above this? It's hard to tell from the pics. Also, do you know which headers are in the pics?

Thanks
BobP

Yes.

There is about 3.5" between the stub and the block.

The pics are of my LS1-powered RX-7 and the headers are made by Hinson Motorsports. Probably not useful info unless you have an FD Rx-7

By the way, we accept returns within 30 days of purchase for a full refund minus shipping costs. So if it doesn't clear your headers you can always return it.

NICE. How does it fit in an F-Body with headers?

Pretty sure it fits fine, especially since the F-Body has a more clearance than the Rx-7. I don't have an F-Body handy for test-fitment at the moment, but when I do I'll take some photos.

How convenient. I'll probably go this route whenever I get around to doing an oil cooler.

i need this, but i need to run a remote oil filter, cooler and accumulator, that would be a nest of lines if i could even fit a remote filter adapter on there.

do you think this would also fit down there see any issues running both adapters.

I think you're right, if you're going to run a remote filter, it's going to be even messier using this adapter. This adapter is intended for someone who wants to keep the filter in the stock location.

If you're running a remote filter, you might as well run an adapter in the filter location and use an external, in-line thermostat. Mocal makes a nice one, PM me for pricing if you want me to order one for you.

Question - if you installed this before you had the cooler in place, would you just loop the connections with a small piece of hose until you had the cooler in place and ready to plumb?

You could loop them. But why would you want to install it before you have a cooler to connect it to? I would recommend waiting until you have the cooler in place. There are only two bolts involved and it literally takes 5 minutes to install; very easy. No need to waste money on a line to loop the connections with.

Because I'm slow like that I had a really bad experience in the past stripping one of those bolts on another guy's car, and the oil that came pouring out was unbelievable, so I like to get a torque wrench on those fasteners, which you can only do with the header out of the way on my Camaro. Dropping that header would be easier this spring while I'm doing my clutch install...if it was already in place and not used, it would be easier to figure out where to mount a cooler and run the lines at a later date without having to agonize over it all at once.

Retarded? Yes...that's me.
