Upgrading intake, suggestions?
Hey all-
I'm finally ready to step up from the LS6 intake. This year my setup should look like this:
I want to stay with the 200 shot and I'm leaving on it right out of the hole, right around 5k rpm.
Intake wise, I don't think I want to bother with the FAST 90 at all... as its not enough gain over the LS6 to even bother unless its ported big time. I'm also concerned with strength IF the car ever decides to backfire through the intake.
I know the 102 will "work" on the LS1, but through the reworked 241s (that I don't have budget to upgrade this year really) is it really worth all the coin I'll have to drop for a new setup?
What other options are there out there?
I'm finally ready to step up from the LS6 intake. This year my setup should look like this:
- full suspension, LCAs, TA, QA1s, PHB, 9" w/4.11s
- CNC'd 241s... which kinda sucks, but its a N2O car
- HSW wet kit setup for 200, -6 feed, large solenoids, purge, FPS, window switch, etc etc
- Kooks 1 7/8 to 2" stepped headers, planning bullet mufflers of some kind
- 255 walbro, 42#, wideband perma installed
- stock cubes, forged pistons and rods

Yep, 200. Ran it all last year and the LS6 took it without issue... but it never backfired @ low RPM (it did @ about 4500RPM on my last pass of the season @ 1/2 track... scared the #$%T outta me... but everything was fine less the MAF blowing off and my lid cracking one tab off).
Looking around it looks like Becks or Vic Jr are the main options.
You say "carb intake" which immediately makes me think that I'll be running a carb, but I'm assuming I'd have to run an elbow and put a TB on the front of that... yes?

i would run the vic jr its alot cheap and you can use the elbow and just run a plate kit or install it into all 8 runners in the vic jr. if you want to be stealthy about it you can do all the pluming on the bottom side of the vic jr and no one would see your lines under there

The new 102 design is able to be taken apart and have individual top and bottom shells as well as the runners replaced. Haven't seen anything about a burst panel in the newest design.

I was educated on burst panels on the 102 yesterday. It's something that you have to cut into the intake and install the correctly sized burst disk to meet your application.

yes they can be put on any fast intake, are you not wanting to run a sheetmetal intake? if you run a plastic one if the car backfires through the intake it may blow alot more then the burst panels.

Subscribing... In a slightly different boat. I just can't see paying $900 for a piece of plastic... My problem is that my heads are gonna outflow the POS LS6 intake and want to compensate for it.
