Default Painted header longevity (Texas)

I've heard of non coated headers rusting away in areas with salt, but how long will painted pacesetters last in the heart of Texas? Thanks.

Hey:

Paint will be burned off in 30 mins to a few days, heat rust will begin after that. Real rust begins not long after that and in Texas will probably last a long time just not look real pretty.

Most headers are shipped with black paint.. Says the paint is to protect the headers for shipping. And will burn off fast. I've painted them after the paint is burned off with high heat ceramic paint and works great. Headers are still black

I don't think anyone has had a header rust through. I could be wrong. I think people just have problems with the looks of a rusty header.

Thanks for the replies guys! I dont really care what it looks like or if the paint lasts, just as long as the headers can go a while without being replaced. Just wondering if paying 100 bucks extra for coating is justified where i live.

Im next door in Oklahoma-On my 99 TA, I bought the cheap black painted hedman headers, they arrived a chalky dull type black paint but oddly enough it never burned off. It smelled bad for the first few days of driving but it still looked the same as the day I bought them when I sold the car 3 years later...

Hey:

I think 3-4 cans of hi heat ceramic paint will last as long as most coatings,
and be a lot cheaper, and you can always touch up later. Any coating that will last will cost a lot more than a hundred bucks.
You can also buy ebay stainless headers for 3-400 bucks that fit ok for most.

Do it right one time and one time only and be done with it. I don't think it has to do anything with the way it looks but after so much rust your going to have to change them anyway.

as stated before, paint will flake off in a day. They will rust, but they wont rust through for years.

this is how i feel. who cares about rust unless its a showcar? its not like the headers are gonna fall off or hurt your peformance because of a little rust.
i went the stainles route on my 98 car and it was beautiful but ended up sellin the car a year or 2 later which proved to be a waste of money.
im goin with pacettters this time and save a crap ton of cash. who cares about a little rust

not necissaryly, my buddy but pacesetter LT's on his LT1 and he sandblasted them down GOOD (key word, you have to take all of the black paint off and make sure it is perfect!) and painted them with high temp silver.... 6 months later they still look damn near new... so if you get the painted you have to sand blast them and then paint them with high temp paint, take your time and make sure you get all of the black paint off... pacesetter puts a sticker on the header that tells you that, that paint is NOT high temp paint... GL i'd get stainless headers from the place that we cant talk about due to sponsers but i bought coated hookers from speedtweekerz for $360

I just bought painted Pacesetters, I couldn't justify spending the extra 100 bucks for the coated headers........Yea I know they will rust but It's my daily driver not my show car.....btw the factory paint took about 10mins to peel off

If you leave the car outside and don't drive it for long periods of time, the headers will eventually rust through. If you daily the car, the moisture is consistantly eliminated ane the light surface corrosion will never get a chance to really corrode through.

I probably should have mentioned that it is my DD. It does get left outside however. Thanks a ton.

The mac headers Ive had on the car for 7-8 years uncoated still look great. This is with the standard paint that comes on them, plus I bought them used.
