Default 01 F-Body PCV Catch can plumbing question

Is this the correct way to mod the PCV system on 01 F-body LS1 or just optional or ?

I would run the hose from the back driver side valve cover to the back pass side cover. Then from that port on the front pass side, put a hose w/pcv valve to catch can, then catch can to the intake manifold. Using a 2 port catch can of course. You can always just run a breather, if you dont mind the oil smell.

Just found this one the big Catch Can thread which shows no capping of the rear port is required. So it would seem the capping is optional.

How is oil still not gettin in through the clean side running from the pass. valve cover to the throttle body?

Ya it doesnt make sense to me either. I would imagine the port on the TB and the the IM would both pull vacuum, I never understood why you would want a "clean" air source anyway. Im running a similar setup to what I wrote on a boosted application, but im using a check valve in between the catch can an IM port(when in boost the IM doesnt pull vac) and using a y fitting with the turbo as a secondary vac source. Seems to work ok but I havent had a chance to run it under load yet.

So is there still oil accumilating in the intake? It seems the best way would be to just plug either the intake or throttle body off, tie the passanger and drivers valve covers together and block the front or back passanger side off, run to the tank, then to the intake or throttle body. Or run a dual set-up.

My take is the clean air port in the TB is in front of the throttle plates, which doesn't have the same level of vacuum as what is felt behind the throttle plates. The venturi effect, similar to bernoulli's principle with fluid dynamics is being utilized.

Therefore you have a difference of pressure and bingo, pull through the dirty side, throught the PCV valve and catch can.

That would work well at idle but at WOT, the TB will pull plenty of vacuum.

Yeah that's what i was thinking. I've been wanting to buy a catch can to get rid of the crap factory system, but i haven't found a way to route it yet. I also have the LS6 valley cover so that's another port i'd have to connect somehow. I don't think it has the two ports on the passanger side valve cover, but i could be mistaken

This system in the second diagram is basically how GM has it, other than the simple inclusion of the catch can, and apparently this pulls alot of oil as is. I can testify to that by the amount of oil crud that was in the intake and head ports.

It may be that this oil is pulled only at lower RPM timeframes, but thats enough to keep the crankcase free of contaminants.

Seems a check valve in the clean air line would stop the possiblity of air flow to the TB direction, but maybe this would add too much pressure drop and was kept out of the system by GM due to that.

Does anyone know where the thread is with all the different ways to route the pcv system?

Page 6 of this install guide shows some routing configurations.

Anyone have any pics of an 01 style LS PCV hoses modded for Catch can.

I'm try to figure what is the best practice for getting the PCV hose to the catch can while keeping the PCV installed. Looks like the OEM hose itself is a plastic type hose with a rubber outer protective cover.

Because the flow of gases goes from the TB to the Passenger cover.

Alright that's what I was thinkin. So the port on the valve cover pulls a vaccum through the throttle body and it's baffled under that port on the valve
cover?
