Default hat what point do you outgrow single exhaust?

Im fixing to either have a new Y pipe made, or completely redo my exhaust from the headers back…
At what point do you outgrow single exhaust? I have a 5.7 LS1 with patriot stage 2 LS6 heads, 231/239 111+2 cam, a ported fast 90mm intake, pacesetters, functional ram air and full bolt on’s all the way around it. Last time on the dyno it put down 430 to the ground. Since then ive added the ported fast 90mm. it also has 2 nitrous kits on it and eventually will hit a 250 shot. I know I am leaving some power on the table with my current Y pipe. It was the first gen pacesetter setup and the drivers portion of the ORY T’s into the passenger side instead of merging into the exhaust as a Y. here are some insane paint skills for illustration:tvhaha:

anyways, I can either build the Y pipe that I want to free up some power, or go for a true dual setup with an X and some 18” long dynomax bullets (biggest they make). Am I making enough power to justify a 3” true dual x-pipe setup?

A single 3 inch exhaust will easily support up to 500 RWHP, maybe more depending on the muffler. I don't know if changing over to true duals is worth it on a H/C car, unless you're doing in for sound.

you can fab your own Y-pipe 3' into 4' I pipe/4' muffler, using a flowmaster merger pipe, many different size combos. that much NOS warrants a 3' td X-pipe systems.

either turn it into a 4" setup with a flowmaster merge, or run the 2.5" true duals.

with the power you're making...even on just motor...you'll pick up power

you have plenty of room for true duals if its your truck...NO REASON not to

if for no other reason than it will sound better and depending on where you get it done it will cost about the same

you are guaranteed to pick up power over what you have

This will get you into the range of the correct pipe size...

Remember, this would be for mandrel bends not compression.

thanks for the help guys. i decided to swap out my 1 3/4 pacesetters for some 1 7/8 TSP headers and run a mandrel 3" true dual setup with a X pipe. 2 of the biggest dynomax bullets i can find. hopefully i will be happy with the results.

i'd go for somehting like a magnaflow 4x9 since you have room. they sound much better than the bullets due to more muffling...but they still have plenty of volumn
